- 3-course home study program
- Required to become trained in CPR
- 100-hour on-the-job internship
Students may work at their own pace, but must complete all five courses and return
all materials – textbooks, workbooks and handouts -- within one year to receive
credit. Please allow one week for review of materials and correction of all written
tests.
Upon completion of all course work, the student will be issued a Certificate of
Completion by A-1 Driving School. The certificate must be presented to the State
of Utah, Director of Driver Services, who at their discretion may issue an Instructor
License to teach Driver Education.
- Three Home-Study Courses. Students are expected to complete a workbook of
questions based on the text and materials that we provide, then pass a written test
with 80 percent or better, for each of the following areas:
- Fundamentals of Traffic Safety Materials based on the nine lessons in A-1’s
9-Day driver education program, to help you teach beginning drivers.
- Drugs, Alcohol and Safety on the Roadways Includes topics on alcohol use
and abuse, various drugs and the problems that occur with drug use.
- Managing the Commercial Driver Education Program Includes topics on small
business management, and Utah rules and regulations regarding commercial and public
driver education programs.
- CPR Training
Students will be required to take a CPR training class through the American Red
Cross or equivalent organization. Student is responsible for scheduling and paying
for these classes. A copy of your course completion is required.
- On-The-Job Internship (100 hours)
Approximately 50 hours in the classroom, and 50 hours in-car observation with a
State Certified Driver Education Instructor.
It is the student’s responsibility to schedule all in-car appointments in advance
with the classroom teacher. You must keep a log of all hours and an instructor must
sign off for each class or in-car session attended.
